UKGBC opens applications for Future Leaders 2023 Summer Programme

The recent Sixth Assessment Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has reiterated the urgent need for the built environment industry to address the critical climate and nature issues facing our planet. As the second largest source of carbon emissions and responsible for a quarter of the UK’s carbon emissions, the industry has a central role to play in achieving our climate targets.

One key aspect of this role is upskilling the existing workforce to confront critical sustainability issues. The Future Leaders programme, designed to inspire the next generation of leaders, is an important part of this effort. The programme is aimed at forward-thinking professionals with 5-10 years’ experience in the industry who are keen to drive radical sustainability transformation.

The 2023 Summer cohort of the programme will mark its tenth year, and to celebrate this milestone, it will be run in both Birmingham and London. The programme will include a signature nature-based offsite and focus on taking ideas from the last ten years of the programme and developing them into actionable business plans. Participants will gain skills in insight gathering, prototyping and experimentation, as well as business model design.

Upon graduation, participants will join over 300 individuals and continue to collaborate through involvement in the UKGBC Leadership Alumni group. This group offers opportunities for professional development, widening networks, and access to thought leaders across the built environment value chain.

The Future Leaders programme is an accelerator for progress towards radical sustainability transformation. As the industry must co-create, fund, and implement solutions to avert climate and nature breakdown, the programme is crucial for upskilling the workforce and driving innovation.

The deadline for applications to the Future Leaders 2023 Summer programme is Friday, 19th May 2023. If you’re a passionate built environment professional, don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a difference. Apply now to join the next cohort of Future Leaders and help build a sustainable future for all.
